Questions and Answers

Questions about BodyTalk are encouraged and welcomed. A selection of commonly asked questions and answers will be posted on this page.

If you have any questions you would like to see addressed here, please feel free to email them to sylvia@innatehealing.net.

Below are a few samples of questions that have been asked in the past.

Question:

I have trouble visualizing things. Would I still benefit from Mindscape?

Sylvia's response:

Many people mistakenly believe that you need to have strong visualization skills in order to apply the Mindscape techniques. Visualization is the use of the subtle sense of sight - there are 4 other subtle senses that you can tap into. When I first started learning how to use the Mindscape tools, I could not "see" anything in my Workshop. It still all worked. Eventually, by repeated trying and practice, I started to get glimpses of seeing things. Now my brain has rewired itself so that I can see more and more. But my strongest sense for getting information is still my subtle sense of hearing. In other words, I hear the answers. So not being able to visualize activities or colours, for example, should not stop you from taking this course. Using the techniques learned will strengthen all aspects of the mind.

Question:

I am interested in taking module 1 and am wondering if there are any pre-requisites I have to complete before taking this course.

Sylvia's response:

There is no prerequisite for taking BodyTalk Module 1. Lay persons with little health background have achieved some excellent results with BodyTalk. However, having said that, the more knowledge and skills a person has about health-related matters (including knowledge of anatomy & physiology and other health care modalities), the quicker and more profound the results may be. Nevertheless, if lay people take the BodyTalk Modules 1 & 2 training, they can always learn the other health-related information later. Once they have an understanding of BodyTalk, they will see what type of things they need to learn - the types of things that would be most helpful to them and future clients.

Many persons who are now excellent BodyTalk Practitioners had little health care background when they started out, but they worked at increasing their knowledge afterwards and through their efforts became better practitioners. A commitment to continuing education is important.

Question:

BodyTalk sounds like it may have some of the roots of the new age movement, does it?

Sylvia's response:

The philosophy that BodyTalk is built on derives from advaita vendanta from East India. So I suppose if the new age movement is built on some of those concepts as well, there could be similarities. I have not made a comparative study of these systems, so I do not feel qualified to say more than that.

Question:

A few years ago I got this cough that starts after I finish eating. The cough will last a few minutes, then it's gone...How can I get this to stop?

Sylvia's response:

Any symptom usually has a number of factors contributing to its appearance. During a BodyTalk session your innate wisdom identifies these factors, whether physical or emotional, and then balances you to eliminate them. I cannot tell you why you developed the cough or how to get it to stop (and neither can the doctors!). Only your own body can.

Question:

My son, who is seven years old, is suffering with allergies (food & environmental), has poor eating habits, sadness, and ADHD-like symptoms (which I believe are related to the above). Would the BodyTalk system be of help to him? I am against chemical treatment for his behavorial problems and would like to see him off the chemical treatments he's currently taking for allergies.

God Bless You, and thank you.

Sylvia's Response:

Your question raises a number of very good issues. Here are some points I can make in response:

1. Young children generally respond very quickly to the shifts initiated via BodyTalk. (The BodyTalk System can even be used on babies before they are born!)

2. The BodyTalk System has been used successfully in balancing the body's systems to the point that in many cases both food and environmental allergies have been alleviated if not eliminated.

3. Behavioural and emotional problems can be related to chemical imbalances or thoughts/beliefs that are non-productive. In either case, the BodyTalk System has techniques built into it that can help.

4. The body can balance itself so that it doesn't require any external "help" via chemicals. However, if anyone is under a doctor's care for management of symptoms with prescription drugs, it is important to work with the doctor in monitoring the drug dosages. A medical doctor is legally the only person who can decrease or eliminate the use of the medication.

5. There are no 100% guarantees in the results - whether working with children or adults or animals - as the Innate Wisdom is in control, not the practitioner. But BodyTalk is a gentle, non-invasive approach that can do no harm.

I would encourage you to try the BodyTalk System with your son. It might change his life - and yours!

Question:

I want to take both BodyTalk and Mindscape. Should I take the BodyTalk Modules 1 & 2 training before taking Mindscape or vice versa?

Sylvia's Response:

The order in which to take these two trainings would be a personal decision based primarily on timing, personal and professional objectives, and finances. There is no correct way to sequence these two trainings, and they are both stand-alone courses. While many BodyTalk Practitioners find Mindscape techniques effective for distance and in-person sessions, Mindscape has many other applications that can enhance participants' personal and professional lives. Someone whose main objective is to start seeing clients as soon as possible would be better off taking the BodyTalk training first. Therefore, I suggest that you assess what seems to make the most sense from your personal perspective. Please don't hesitate to call me if you want to discuss this further.
